Campsite

The Campsite at Kirkjubaer has room for everyone, whether they have tent, motorhome or caravan. There are quite a few electricity hookup available. However it may not be enough if the campsite is busy, so it is good to arrive early.

Rules

Please note:

The gate is closed from midnight to ensure quiet at night. If you are arriving later, you can make an online booking, park outside the Reception and, and walk to the service building (200 m).

We do not have night shift so, please, do not call from 23:00 og 07:00.

The service house

Facilities

In the service house you can load phones and batteries for free.

We heat water with electricity so guests have to pay for shower. Buy coins in the service house

Overnight guests only

Tourists who are not staying at the campsite are asked not to use the facilities in the service building. If people need to access a restroom, there are public toilets open 24/7 at the Vatnajökull National Park Visitor Center, Skaftárstofa. The Visitor Center is located by Route 1, approximately 2 km west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

During your stay

We place great emphasis on ensuring peace and quiet during the nights, and therefore the area is closed to traffic at night, and people are encouraged to be considerate and keep quiet after 11:00 PM. We reserve the right to ask people to leave who do not respect this rule.

It is not recommended to go up the cliff above the campsite for a hike. Instead, go to the right for about 700 meters where there is a safe and good path up to Klausturheiði. See also what to do in Kirkjubæjarklaustur and surroundings

Cottage Rentals

The Campground at Kirkjubær also offers cottages for rent, if you would like to stay at the campsite but also enjoy a warm and cozy stay indoors.
